Course Overview

The training program will provide an understanding of the financial markets, with a primary focus on the Local money market, foreign exchange (FX) market, and bond market. Participants will gain insights into the structure, instruments, and functions of these markets and develop practical skills in valuation, trading, and risk management.

Course outline

Module 1: Money Market

  • Definition, role, and functions of the money market.
  • Overview of money market instruments:
  • Treasury Bills, Central Bank Securities, Commercial Papers, Repurchase Agreements, Certificates of Deposit.
  • Pricing of these instruments 
  • Call money market operations.
  • Valuation techniques for money market instruments (including day count conventions and holiday conventions).

Module 2: Bond Market

  • Overview of government securities and corporate bonds.
  • Fundamentals of the bond market, including the role of primary dealers.
  • Bond price calculations (clean price, accrued interest, dirty price).
  • Primary market auction process & Secondary market 
  • Trading strategies for bond markets and their interconnection with other financial markets.

Module 3: Foreign Exchange (FX) Market

  • Understanding cross-currency rates (base and quoted currency, direct and indirect quotes).
  • Interbank market operations: maker/taker roles and two-way quotes.
  • SPOT FORWARD and SWAP market trading.
  • Deriving cross-currency rates.
  • Position management (NOP, currency positions).
