Course Overview

This introductory course in Financial Modelling is designed to equip participants with a foundational understanding of the core principles and building blocks involved in developing simple, structured financial models. The focus is on helping learners grasp the essential elements at a grassroots level—such as spreadsheet best practices, basic financial statements, linking logic, and introductory forecasting techniques.

Through hands-on exercises and practical illustrations, the course aims to build confidence in navigating Excel and translating financial concepts into a model format, making it ideal for those with limited or no prior experience in financial modelling.

Part 1

  • Introduction to financial modeling
  • Financial statements integrations and financial modeling
  • Financial Analysis and link to financial modeling
  • The financial modeling mindset, considerations and best practices
  • Presentation – Real life financial model (Advanced)

Part 2

  • Hands on model development – Basic model construction
  • Adding the complexities (Capex, working capital, and other key captions)
  • Financial modeling beyond the financial statements – Dashboards, valuations, ratios, templates, etc. (an overview discussion)
  • Trouble shooting
  • Financial modeling – The next level
