Course Overview

Understanding the economy is no longer optional, it is essential for making sound decisions in business, investments and strategic management. The workshop is designed to help you how to think and interpret real-world economic data to understand its dynamics, underlying economic shifts, and make better-informed contributions to your organizations.

The session will not include a discussion on the Frontier outlook for the economy or an in-depth discussion on specific forecasting methods.

Program Outline

  1. Identify and validate reliable fiscal and external data, including checking for institutional credibility and definition/data revisions.
  2. Interpret Sri Lanka’s key fiscal and external indicators in the context of sustained twin surpluses and structural change.
  3. Understand the importance of context and limits of cross-country comparisons.
  4. Recognize how twin surpluses signal stability and a more supportive environment for Sri Lankan businesses.
