Capital Market Awards 2026

First launched back in 2012, the coveted Capital Market Awards of the CFA Society Sri Lanka recognise and reward excellence in the local capital markets. The event aligns with the Society’s overarching mission to lead the finance and investment profession in Sri Lanka by introducing and promoting global best practices in ethics, education, and professional excellence for the ultimate benefit of society.

The awards will be presented under the following categories, with awards for Gold, Silver, and Bronze in each category:

  • Best Stockbroking Research Team
  • Best Equity Research Report
  • Best Sector Research Report
  • Best Investor Relations
    • Small Cap Companies
    • Large to Medium Cap Companies
  • Best Unit Trust Fund
    • Sub-category: New Industry Entrant Category

The judging of the Capital Market Awards will be conducted by a carefully selected panel consisting of both CFA charter holders as well as industry experts.

Best Stockbroking Research Team Award

Rewards teams working to develop research as an integral component of investment decision-making, targeting fundamentals-driven, informed, and efficient capital markets. Also promotes the provision of high-quality and timely research to all market participants. The value of research teams among institutional investors is assessed through a survey among the fund managers. One-on-one interviews with companies are also conducted with a panel of Judges. This category is evaluated based on depth and breadth of coverage, accuracy in forecasts and facts, quality of research, and industry knowledge and sector experience.

Best Unit Trust Fund Award

Recognises and rewards fund management companies that place unit holders’ interest first, provide adequate disclosures to the existing and prospective unit holders to make an informed decision, adopt stringent risk management and compliance practices, and implement other best practices in Asset Management. Unit trust funds are evaluated based on publicly available information and documents requested by the committee. Shortlisted funds are requested to make presentations. Evaluation is carried out based on the quality of disclosures and availability of information to the public, investment management, risk management, and compliance processes and practices, diligence, and transparency in managing investments and risk-adjusted returns. As encouragement to new entrants, there is also a sub-award category (New Industry Entrant Category) for the best fund with a track record between 3-5 years.

Best Sector Research Report Award

Rewards and recognises analysts producing best-in-class sector research. Promotes best practices in fundamental equity research, thereby ensuring an informed and efficient capital market. Submissions are initially shortlisted and then ranked by the judges. This category is evaluated based on industry overview and regional comparison, industry attractiveness, competitive landscape as well as industry challenges and risks.

Best Equity Research Report Award

Rewards and recognises analysts producing best-in-class equity research and promotes best practices in fundamental equity research, thereby ensuring an informed and efficient capital market. Submissions are initially shortlisted and then ranked by the judges. Evaluation is based on industry overview and competitive landscape, company overview, ESG, management and share dynamics, financial analysis, valuation, and investment risks.

Best Sustainability Reporting Award

Launched in 2023, this award aims to recognise transparency and excellence in sustainability reporting among listed corporates in Sri Lanka. The evaluation will be conducted through a two-step process by a panel of judges comprising industry experts. The initial shortlisting will be based on the application submitted/or as assessed by the judges which are circulated for confirmation by the companies, where shortlisted companies will proceed to the second round, which will comprise of detailed review of the sustainability reporting disclosures.

This award is open to all listed equities of the Colombo Stock Exchange. The top 25 entities, by market capitalisation, listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange will be considered for the award by default.

Best Investor Relations Award

This award recognises entities that are listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange that excel in maintaining transparent, effective communication with their stakeholders, in particular current and prospective investors, research houses and coverage analysts. This award highlights organisations that consistently deliver accurate, timely, and clear financial information, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders. The initial shortlisting is based on the recommendations of a shortlisting committee comprising of brokerages and assets managers, following which the shortlisted companies are further evaluated by the panel of judges based on public disclosures.
